Read:

Jigsaw the passage "Land Rush" from the target tests. Each person read 1 paragraph.
  • From the paragraph, write down the Point. (What was the author's purpose for writing this paragraph?)
  • Then, write one sentence using Evidence to support your point. (Prove to me using text that this was the author's point.)
  • Then, Explain how the quote supports your point. (How does that quotation help to prove the point? Why did you use it? What information does it give? Etc.)

Discuss

In 6 rounds, put the paragraphs together (Jigsaw) by summarizing each paragraph in groups. When finshed, discuss the passage as a whole.
  • As a group, write down the Point of the whole passage. (What was the author's purpose for writing this essay?)
  • Then, write one sentence using Evidence to support your point. (Prove to me using text that this was the author's point.)
